Nice article, but do you really think website designs can be localized? You mean certain designs are a trend in, for example, Holland? I haven't really noticed that before here.

I gotta admit though, I'm working with some freelance graphic designers in Belgium, and their style is completely different from anything I've seen in the Netherlands. A bit more chaotic and daring. Less rules.

To be honest, I really don't care if it's a globalized or localized design, as long as it looks great and not TOO familiar. It's gotta be a little bit original.

I think designers should keep their themes/template clean and easy for visitors, no matter where they come from. Their websites are only made to provide information to the people, I really don't think may people care unless they can't find what they are looking for. The top priority for designers should be easy navigation.

@Nur I've gotta agree with you, the MY gov really have to spend some time revising their web design and functionality. Globalization or localization, it's no reason to be that bad. There's seriously too many room for improvements.

@da blonde. It sucks, doesn't it? You always start off so ambitious, professionally wanted to help them get a really good changeover but end up just-doing-what-they-want.

Sometimes I feel bad for corporate junior designers because they totally have no say at all, it makes them tools for shallow decision makers who don't know much about web, let alone design.

Sorry about the links, it's for the readers to know more about the terms.

Chill out man, I'm not pointing hand here. If you read the whole article, I never blame anybody. I'm just sharing my opinion.

Why do you have all those irrelevant links to wikipedia articles cluttering your page and distracting the reader from smoothly following your content?

Soooooooo, your aesthetic sensibility is different from some other people. Big deal... what do you expect??? You seem to have decided that you are "right" and they are "wrong". Why? Have you talked to someone... maybe a psychologist... about this?

mat nur!!! i've been facing the same situation before. hehe. as a designer cum slave, most orgs managers are from the baby boomers era (they're very conservative in thinking). unlike us whose came from the generation X and Y whereas we can easily adapt quickly to any changes, these managers seems hard to accept those so called "globalization web designs".

in the end, we as designers dump all contents in the main page plus a heavy flash based banner (ohhhhh flash based banner is a must in every org website --- especially animated fireworks). hahaha. not to mention all those funky contradict colours. hahaa

did u realize that younger & web 2.0 savvy managers like your boss are the total opposite of those dinasours in Bolehland orgs? hehe juzt my 2 cents.

Globalization vs Localization Website Design...

Designer out there must have faced a problem that your design got rejected sometime. I want to discuss one of the reason.
The reason is because we always got inspired by the globalization designs. What I mean by globalization design?

Sad but true, anyway I'm stopping all my project for now due to personal reason. You're also right actually, I do speak up my opinion. But when you're working with client that are perfectionist, they sometimes make ridiculous changes that make us end up like their own employees. We just have to listen to them.

Another thing, they never think about us. They always dragging time from a 2 weeks project can become 2 months projects. Clearly we are not their employees, we're being paid by project. So dragging time cause us a lot of trouble.
